Donna Ikkanda was born in Santa Monica, California and raised in the Sawtelle area of west Los Angeles. She has drawn and painted for as long as she can remember. A sansei (third generation Japanese-American), she lists as her earliest artistic influences the ukiyoe (Japanese woodblock prints) she’d pore over at her grandfather’s house. Her fascination with these late 18th century artists led to an interest in the power of line, pattern and color in compositions both simple and complex. • She studied pictorial arts at UCLA when the university was staffed with resident and visiting instructors such as Richard Diebenkorn, Lee Mullican, and Ed Ruscha. Her career has been spent mainly in the field of graphic design and illustration. She has worked with Billboard Magazine, the Getty Center for Education in the Arts, the Santa Monica Museum of Art, Long Beach Opera, Los Angeles Master Chorale, UCLA Film Archive, and Xerox Corporation. She has sold original gouache and watercolor paintings and is an illustration contributor to Getty Images. Eat Cake Productions is a graphic arts partnership of Donna Ikkanda and John Beilock. Our main focus is fine art: limited edition digital prints by Donna Ikkanda. We’re also known for our Asian zodiac t-shirts. Our joy is creating, our pleasure is sharing what we see. |
